The True Issue of Mass Shootings

05/03/2019

Many older folks will claim the common thread of mass shootings is that the shooters all played violent video games, however, the first mass shooting occurred before the first video game came out. Howard Unruh killed 13 people on September 6, 1949, over two decades before the first video game, Computer Space, was released in 1971. Before video games, people blamed television and movies. Before television and movies, people blamed books or lack of religion. When are we going to acknowledge that the only common thread is the gun itself? As long as guns have existed, people have used them for their only purpose, killing and harming. Be it wild animals or human animals, guns are designed for one purpose only, to hurt another living creature. We cannot keep scapegoating things that have very little influence on this issue.
